Every Second is Precious
When Carlos suffered a stroke, every second mattered. Through guided, authentic conversations with Carlos, his wife, and his son, StoryKeeping created a short documentary revealing how exceptional stroke care saved a beloved husband and father.
Authenticity Can't be Scripted
In March 2021, Baptist Health reached out to StoryKeeping wanting to create a video showing the process a stroke patient goes through in their system. The idea was to interview 2-3 subject matter experts and a couple patients in a few locations. Rather than explaining the stroke center through interviews with medical experts, we recommended letting one real patient guide viewers through the experience. If audiences cared about Carlos, they would naturally come to appreciate the people and process that saved his life.
Carlos was still receiving post-stroke speech therapy at the time of the interview, so his wife sat beside him on the couch to tell their story together. When we learned their son was the first to discover Carlos on the floor, we invited him to share his story as well. After the interview, we filmed details and scenes around the home to help bring the audience into their story.
Baptist Health provided the outline of their process in the stroke center, so we were able to identify opportunities to highlight their services as Carlos had experienced them. Instead of hiring an actor, we asked Carlos if he was willing to meet us at the hospital for a reenactment. He loved the idea and even wore the same clothes.
We sat in on and filmed part of an actual speech therapy session, and filmed Carlos reuniting with one of the nurses who helped him in his journey. Rather than interrupt Carlos' story introducing technical experts, carefully placed narration provided just enough context to guide viewers through the stroke care process while allowing the family's experience to maintain the emotional focus.
What began as a conversation about creating a video about their stroke center resulted in a powerful personal story of how Baptist Health saved a life. Instead of telling audiences why they should trust Baptist Health, the film allowed them to instinctively feel that trust as Carlos received their care.
Because Baptist Health acted quickly, Carlos and his family cherish every precious second they have together.
Way More than One Video
The feature documentary tells Carlos' story in a concise, meaningful way, but our interviews create too many valuable moments to include everything in the final film. Creating chapters with this bonus material gives Baptist Health an archive of valuable content to be shared in presentations, physician outreach, fundraising, employee recognition, social media, and future marketing efforts.
Each chapter stands on its own while contributing to the larger story, allowing viewers to explore the moments, emotions, and conversations that mattered most. Together, they become more than marketing assets. They become a permanent record of one family's remarkable journey and the compassionate care that helped make it possible.
